Stepping Stones Learning Academy was originally approved by the Maryland Department of Education and Office of Child Care to teach kindergarten and first grade in 1999. In the succeeding years, Stepping Stones has expanded its grade offerings, and now provides instruction for pre-k (four year olds) through twelfth. While Stepping Stones is the youngest private school in the Salisbury area, SSLA is continuously growing and expanding program offerings to ensure SSLA students are academically competitive.

Stepping Stones Learning Academy strives to provide a challenging academic program for students that will prepare them for both secondary and post-secondary education. The elementary curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all children and all types of learners. It promotes not only cognitive development but also social, emotional and physical-motor skills. The secondary curriculum offers advanced level courses and dual enrollment options with Wor-Wic Community College. All grades are encouraged to incorporate technology and engage in differentiated, cooperative, and cross-curricular instruction, especially in the elementary curriculum. In addition, SSLA is dedicated to providing all of our students with experiential learning opportunities through hands-on learning activities, labs, and field trips. Some of our more notable experiences include: caving in Sweetwater, TN, whitewater rafting near Fayetteville, WV, exploring Mt. Rushmore at Keystone, ND, swimming with dolphins in Orlando, FL, and gem mining in North Carolina.
